After a lot of rumours, Xiaomi has come with the first foldable smartphone Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold. It is the first foldable smartphone coming with the Snapdragon 888 chip. The latest device has launched with the credit of the first liquid lens camera. Inward folding design, Gorilla Glass 5, and a special ceramic edition with a textured back are some of the specifications of the newly launched device. Features of Mi MIX Fold

The main foldable display of the handset is an 8.01-inch WQHD+ OLED panel. The handset, with the first Dolby Vision display, has an aspect ratio of 4:3. It is a foldable smartphone with the largest main display. It has no holes, notches, or a high refresh rate. The color contrast ratio is 4,300,000:1, and a JNCD value and Delta E value of 0.29 and 0.35 respectively. Moreover, the color display has a DCI-P3 color gamut.

Outside display is a 6.52-inch AMOLED (2520 x 840) HD+. The refresh rate is 90Hz as well as the aspect ratio is 27:9. Moreover, the touch sampling rate is 180Hz and the maximum brightness is 900 nits. It comes with HDR10+ and also an in-house algorithm to provide image and video with super-resolution. The device houses a Snapdragon 888 processor, 16GB of LPPDR5 RAM, and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It has a butterfly-type cooling system.

MIX Fold has Harman Kardon tuned speakers. It has quad speakers with a 3D spatial audio experience. The company offers a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and a 5020mAh battery (dual battery design – 2460mAh + 2560mAh) with 67W fast wired charging. It also features Quick Charge 4+ and Power Delivery 3.0. In terms of connectivity, the device features NFC, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 with support for AAC, LDAC, and LHDC. The smartphone has launched with MIUI 12 based on Android 10. Using multiple apps at the same time is possible on the smartphone.

Speaking about the camera, the handset supports three rear cameras. It consists of a 108MP HM2 sensor with a 7P lens followed by an 8MP camera with a liquid lens. The second camera features 3x optical zoom and up to 30x telephoto zoom. It also has a 13MP f/2.4 123° ultrawide angle camera. On the front, it houses a 20MP selfie camera. 

Xiaomi has added an improved 3A algorithm and low-light focus capabilities. The chip gives exceptionally high performance while using low CPU and storage space.

Pricing and availability

The device is coming with the 12GB RAM + 256GB version for  ¥9999 (~$1521). Moreover, a 12GB RAM + 512GB model costs ¥10999 (~$1673). The pricing tag of Ceramic Special Edition 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage is ¥12,999 (~$1976). The sale will start on April 16 in China.
