Qualcomm Launches Snapdragon 7 Gen 1

Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 CPU, which is a new entry in the Snapdragon 7 series that will power mid-range devices, alongside the latest and best Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip. Many firsts are also included in the chipset.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 mobile CPU is built on a 4nm technology and includes four Cortex-A710 cores running at 2.4GHz and four Cortex-A510 cores. The processor also has an Adreno 662 GPU, which is 20 percent faster than the previous iteration.

It also has an X62 5G modem with 4.4Gbps download rates and dual 5G capabilities. WiFi-6E and Bluetooth 5.3 are also supported, as well as Snapdragon Sound and aptX.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset supports up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and supports 60Hz QHD+ or 144Hz FHD+ displays.

A single 200MP sensor, 64MP + 20MP sensors, and three 25MP sensors are also included. Three 14-bit ISPs on the chip can capture 720p video at 480 frames per second and 4K HDR video at 30 frames per second. It also supports the HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG formats.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 comes with Android SE and a Trusted Management Engine, which ensures that digital keys and wallets are kept safe. It works with current navigation satellites like GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, NavIC, and dual-frequency GNSS.

In 2022, Qualcomm has confirmed that Xiaomi, OPPO, and Honor would produce smartphones with the newly announced processor. The Oppo Reno 8 Pro is slated to be the first phone using the SoC when it launches on May 23rd.
