After shifting the launch multiple times, OnePlus finally launched the OnePlus 8 Series in an online event. Both OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro receives respectable hardware upgrades readying them to compete with the premium flagships from Samsung and Apple. Here are all the details you should know about the latest lineup from OnePlus
OnePlus 8 Pro
The OnePlus 8 Pro comes with a 6.78-inch QHD+ (1440×3168 pixels) Fluid AMOLED Display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. It supports up to 240 Hz touch sampling rate. And a peak brightness of 1300 nits. The display has a 19:8:9 aspect ratio and is protecting by Corning Gorilla Glass. The display panel supports 10-bit and has HDR10+ rating. OnePlus 8 Pro had broken 13 records and scored an A+ rating from DisplayMate.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Platform handles the performance of the phone, and Adreno 650 GPU handles the graphics. The phone has two LPDDR5 RAM options – 8 GB and 12 GB and storage options of 128/256 GB with UFS 3.0. It comes with Oxygen OS based on Android 10 out of the box.
It houses a 16-megapixel Sony IMX471 sensor with an f/2.45 aperture lens and 1.0-micron pixel size clicking for selfies. The rear houses a quad-camera setup. The primary camera is a 48-megapixel Sony IMX689 sensor with an f/1.78 lens that has Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), and Electronic image Stabilization (EIS) enabled. An 8-MP secondary sensor accompanies it with an f/2.44 telephoto lens and OIS support. The ultrawide Sony IMX586 sensor is of the 48-MP resolution and has an aperture of f/2.2. Lastly, the 8 Pro has a 5-megapixel “Color-Filter” sensor for creative light effects and filters. This camera is covered by an f/2.4 lens. The phone offers a hybrid zoom of 3x resolution, and the video recording is capped at 60 FPS.
The OnePlus 8 Pro has 4,510 mAh battery and comes with War Charger 30T (5V/6A) in the box. The phone supports Wireless Charging of up to 30 Watts and reverses wireless charging as well. The phone weighs in at 199 grams and is 8.5mm thick. It comes with Oxygen OS based on Android 10 out of the box.
The phone comes with dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos technology and offers Audio 3D and Audio Zoom features. It also comes with an improved Haptic Vibration Engine. There are an IP-68 Water and Dust Resistance for protection.
OnePlus 8
Turning to the OnePlus 8, the cheaper flagship has most of the internals of the 8 Pro. It runs Android 10 with Oxygen OS on top. The phone is powered by the same Snapdragon 865 chipset and Adreno 650 GPU.
The phone has a 6.55-inch full-HD+ Fluid AMOLED display with a 90 Hz refresh rate. It has an aspect ratio of 20:( and 3D Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The RAM configurations are 8GB or 12GB. The Storage capacity is 128GB/256GB based on UFS 3.0.
The triple camera setup at the rear comprises of a 48-MP Sony IMX586 sensor with an f/1.75 lens, 2-MP secondary sensor with an f/2.4 macro lens and finally an ultrawide sensor with a resolution of 16-MP with f/2.2 lens. The phone like its elder brother also supports video recording of 4K resolution with 30/60 FPS. The selfie camera is a 16-MP Sony IMX471 sensor with an f/2.45 lens.
OnePlus 8 has a 4,300 mAh battery with 30 Watt charger inside the box. The phone weighs 180 grams and is 8mm thick. It lacks any IP Certification or Wireless Charging.
Both phones include connectivity options like 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.1, GPS / A-GPS, NFC and USB Type-C port and an in-display fingerprint sensor for security. They feature an Alert Slider for adjusting the sound profiles. And both include dual-SIM (nano) support.
Pricing and Availability
The OnePlus 8 pricing starts at $699 for the 8GB + 128GB storage variant and $799 for the 12GB + 256GB variant. The colours announced are Glacial Green, Polar Silver (Verizon Exclusive) and Interstellar Glow (12GB+ 256GB variant only).
The OnePlus 8 Pro is priced at $899 for the 8GB + 128GB option, and $999 version comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB of storage. The phone is available in Glacial Green, Onyx Black, and Ultramarine Blue (exclusive for the 12GB + 256 GB variant).
Both phones Pre-orders started as of yesterday and will be available for purchase from 21st April in Europe and from 29th April in the US. No details regarding the Indian pricing is available as of now.
