Google has unveiled a new widget for its Maps app, which will be accessible to Android users soon. This new widget will allow Android users to receive real-time traffic updates at their current location. Google released a similar widget for iOS users in 2021, and it now plans to expand the service to Android users. The “Know before you go” widget on iOS, on the other hand, is more comprehensive, allowing users to check traffic conditions, geographical details, store opening times, restaurant ratings, and more. The tech giant also stated that its first-party apps on Android now include over 30 widgets, with the new Google Maps widget bringing the total to 35.

The Google Maps Nearby Traffic Widget For Android

According to 9to5Google, the tech giant has shown out the first look at the widget, which appears to be 2×2. Google hasn’t said whether users will be able to resize the widget or if it will be added to the “Quickly find nearby places” one.

According to the report, Google’s preview shows a rounded square with a map inside, as well as the user’s current location denoted by a blue dot in the centre. Similar to how users can see the Traffic map layer in the entire app, Google will alert users to the status of traffic signified by green, orange, and red lines.

A floating action button (FAB) with the Dynamic Color theme will be available in the bottom-right corner, while the Google logo will be at the bottom-left corner of the widget. Users will be able to zoom in and out of the map using the FAB.

Users will be able to see traffic information for their present area immediately from their Android Home screen, according to the report. This will allow users to check local traffic before departing for home, work, school, or anyplace.
