Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Watch, the company’s new smartwatch along with the Galaxy Note 9 yesterday in New York. The Galaxy Watch is the successor of the popular Samsung Galaxy Gear S3.
The company announced two variants of the Galaxy Watch – a 42 mm one and a 46 mm one. The 42 mm has 1.2 inch display and 46 mm variant, a 1.3 inch display. Both variants spots a Circular SAMOLED Full Colour Always On Display and has a 360 x 360 resolution. The device has a Corning Gorilla Glass DX+, MLD-STD-810G certified military-grade durability, 5ATM, and IP68 water resistance, which means it is protected against most cases.
Both the variants of the Galaxy Watch is powered by dual-core Exynos 9110 SoC, and has Bluetooth and LTE variants. The Bluetooth variant is paired with 768 MB of RAM, and the LTE variant has 1.5 GB of RAM. Both the variants have one GB of internal storage.
The Galaxy Watch runs Samsung’s Tizen-based OS v4.0 and comes with a sensors to monitor hear rate, step counts, sleep cycle, and other fitness activities. There’s a new stress management tracker which can detect high levels of stress automatically and gives breathing exercises.
In terms of connectivity, the Galaxy Watch supports 3G/LTE network, Bluetooth V4.2, Wi-Fi b/g/n, NFC, GPS (A-GPS/Glonass), and MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) support for Samsung Pay. Talking about the power, the 42 mm ships on 270 mAh battery and the 46 mm has 472 mAh battery, and the company has introduced a Wireless Charger Duo which will charge the device. The device will be compatible with phones running either Android 5.0 or above, or iOS 9.0 or above.
The 46 mm variant of the Galaxy Watch is priced at $349.99 (approx. (1,658,031.68 INR) and the 42 mm variant has the price tag of $329.99 (approx. 22,774). It will be available from August 24.
