New Samsung Galaxy Watch listed in Samsung Website

Samsung may not be the worst in terms of naming devices but they have had their moments (remember Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus anyone?) But we are seeing a shift in the state of things. A new leak from the South Korean firm suggests that the new version of the Samsung smartwatch will be called the Samsung Galaxy Watch, instead of something like the Samsung Gear S4.

The change of name may also be suggesting something else. According to some reports, Samsung was working on a version of the smartwatch with the Android Wear OS running on it, instead of Samsung’s Tizen OS. So Samsung might devote the Galaxy Watch line to Android Wear OS and the Gear S line to Tizen OS devices.

Samsung has mistakenly listed the Samsung Galaxy Watch alongside the Samsung Gear S2 on its US website. The smartwatch was a 42mm Rose Gold variant which had the model number SM-R810NZDAXAR. Even though the model number does not match with the FCC filings, the “R800” part matches earlier reports on the product line’s name. The device was removed from the mistake after a while.

Samsung is expected to launch this device alongside the Note 9 and the MagBee speakers during its August 9 event in Brooklyn, New York. If not, the device will see light during IFA 2018 in Berlin, Germany which starts on the 31st of August.
